Abstract

The use of prosthesis is important in the restoration of mobility and in the prevention of accidents, discomfort, and disease. In the design of prosthesis, the fitting process to the cut section commonly important. During whole day, the volume of the stump varies as mush as 7%. Therefore, it is necessary to match the limb to the socket towards maximizing comfort as well as mobility. The stress on the surface of body corresponds to various indexes used in the production of new socket designs, which are taken into account in the design and fitting stages. Prosthetic design should be dynamic to cope with daily variation. In addition, the relationship between shearing and vertical stress as they affect the edge of the limb and the socket are focal points for adjustment and improvement in both present and future prosthetic limbs.
