In this paper, a haptic sensor system for evaluation of human hair under dry and wet conditions is developed. The polyvinydene fluoride (PVDF) film, which is a kind of piezoelectric materials, is used as the sensory receptor. The sensor consists of acrylic base, a silicone rubber, a PVDF film, and projections for the contact to objects. The sensor output is obtained by contacting and scanning of the sensor on the objects. Panels imitating the physical and chemical properties of human hair are fabricated and used as measuring objects for stable measurement. The surface of the sensor projection and sensor structure are improved in order to measure under wet condition as well as under dry condition. Panels cleaned by hair care products are evaluated by the improved sensor, and the sensor outputs are compared with human sensory evaluation. It is confirmed that the sensor outputs have a clean correlation with human evaluation.
