National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has been proposing OMS (Orbital Maintenance System) for this decade, which is a rescue-and removal satellite-servicing system for telecommunications satellites, and has conducted research on related technologies. One of the biggest challenges in on-orbit maintenance is the development of autonomous rendezvous technologies. The rescue satellite must be able to approach the target satellite before it falls out of orbit. To do this, the rescue satellite must first recognize the target and determine its relative position. To achieve these technologies, NICT is now developing high-performance image capture and analyzing unit called a Diverse Information Visioning Extension Camera (DIVE-CAM). This paper describes the concept and development of the DIVE-CAM Engineering Model.
