In this paper authors propose a theory of optimized damping for column structure in order to guard a trolley system from damage by train traffics. When viscoelastic dampers are attached to a side of the column, the damping factor is optimized by a theory of a cantilever beam deformation. In order to confirm the proposed theory, vibration tests of small scale column with the viscoelastic damper which is optimized are carried out. The theory and effects of vibration suppression are confirmed experimentally and theoretically, and a feasibility study for a real structure is discussed.
