Abstract
The goal of the present work is to give an analytical explanation of the so-called fluid balancer, a rotating ring partially filled with liquid, which is widely used in industrial and home appliances, such as washing machines. It appears that the system has much in common with guided-ball self-balancing rotors. A literature survey of both fields are given, and it is discussed how the fluid balancer problem can be modeled.
