It is important to estimate mechanical properties of pelvis to design for acetabulum cup. The purpose of this study is to estimate mechanical properties of pelvic cortical bone which is dominant for behavior of pelvis. A micro-indentation test for human pelvic cortical bone has been carried out to obtain Young's modulus (E), and E is estimated as a function of bone density (ρ) converted from CT value. To consider an anisotropy of cortical bone, E has been measured in two directions based loading condition. As the results of examination, the pubis which is one of pelvic parts has strong anisotropy in E-ρ relationships. Furthermore, the mechanical behaviors of pelvis under compress loading have been estimated with isotropy and anisotropy model by Finite Element Analysis (FEA). As the results, an anisotropy of pubis has little effect on pelvic mechanical behavior.
