ZrO_2/SiC composite ceramics were sintered and subjected to three-point bending. A semi-circular surface crack of 100μm in diameter was made on each specimen. We studied crack-healing behavior. The main conclusions are as follows, (1) ZrO_2/SiC ceramics could heal a crack in N_2 gas environment. (2) The fatigue strength was enough, compared with smooth specimen. (3) A phase -transformation by healing made an improvement of fracture toughness, considerably.
