This paper describes the bending fatigue strength of fine particle bombarded (FPB) gears. Thermally refined S45C gears and case-carburized SCM415 gears were shot-peened by different shot materials of various diameters. Bending fatigue tests for these gears were performed using a pulsator. The effects of shot materials and shot diameters of FPB on the bending fatigue strength of gears were determined. Bending fatigue strengths of thermally refined S45C gears and case-carburized SCM415 gears are found to become larger by about 10〜40% with FPB.
