Abstract

The present study describes effects of surface texture on reduction of friction resistance of cemented carbide in a mixed and boundary lubricated condition. A ring on disc type testing apparatus was used for the experiment at a constant sliding speed. Different texture combinations of the ring and disc, flat-flat, micro dimples-micro dimples or parallel grooves-micro dimple were evaluated. Results of the cemented carbides were compared with those of the alloy steel to evaluate the frictional properties. It was found that the friction coefficient of the cemented carbides was smaller than that of the alloy steel in the higher applied load region in each texture combination.
