Abstract
Evaluation of cylindrical components with a crack is often required in the integrity assessment of many machineries and plants. In this study, J-integral was analyzed by elastic-plastic finite element method for a cylinder with a circumferential crack subjected to radial and axial temperature distributions. A simplified method utilizing the concepts of the reference stress and elastic follow-up was then developed and its effectiveness was demonstrated by comparison with the results of finite element analysis.
