Abstract
It is studied whether the application of the heat storage system with metal hydride (MH) is available for air conditioning of buildings or not. The MH generates heat at absorption process and absorbs heat at desorption process. The trial system is composed of two heat storage vessels which are filled with MH, and a compressor equipped for hydrogen transfer. In the practical application, it is important to improve of COP (Coefficient of performance) which is a ratio of the power of the compressor to the heat storage quantity. The operation time of the compressor can be reduced by filling the different MH into two vessels. In this paper, two heat storage methods were experimented. One method raises the rate of electric power use in the night, and produces cold water in all day. Other method uses the electric power only in the night, and produces cold water in day. As the result, COP of former method becomes 2.8 and that of latter one 1.9.
