A design of experiment (DOE) method for a practical implementation of squeeze-film aeroelastic disk vibration damping and its optimal performance are presented to provide a solution method to meet the tight TMR (Track Mis-Registration) design budget of 80GB/platter high-TPI (track per inch) HDDs. The squeeze-film disk damping effect is implemented by using the circular shape aluminum plate with the constant 0.5mm level gap between disk and plate which are practically implementable in mass-production HDDs.
