Abstract
Lubricant-slider interaction was investigated by focusing on lubricant depletion during slider following or seeking over a magnetic disk. It was found that the decrease in lubricant film thickness mainly depends on asperity contact between the slider and disk. It was also found that lubricant depletes in nominally non-contact region at a following test. However, when the slider is seeking over the whole disk surface, lubricant depletes when the interference height is above a certain value. And the depletion saturates after the mobile layer of the lubricant is removed.
