Abstract
Theoretical aspects of backwards transport on a traveling wave device are discussed. It is clarified that a countermoving harmonic wave can account for this phenomenon. Using a perturbation approach the critical frequency and the critical altitude are ca1culated and compared with numerical results. It is shown that both are in good agreement.
