Abstract
In this paper, the corrosion characteristics on the magnetic media of the hard disks were analyzed. A commercial hard disk was compared with disk treated by acetone. It was found that the corrosion spots for the both disks are linearly related to the heating time. The corrosion spots of the commercial disk are increased at the rate of about 19.33 spots/hour while the disk treated by acetone prior to heating increased at a rate of 55.47 spots/hour. It was noted that due to the small changes in the thickness of Z-Dol, the rate of change of corrosion spots changes drastically.
