Abstract
This paper presents an analytical and experimental study of friction-induced bouncing vibrations of a flying head slider in a near-contact regime by using a 2-DOF slider model in a translation and pitch motion. During calculation of contact force characteristics between the trailing pad and disk, we considered asperity contact including bulk deformation, adhesive force of lubricant and friction force in the real contact area. We numerically simulated the dynamic behavior of the slider in the near-contact regime. As a result, we can obtain the hysteresis behavior of slider bouncing vibration and severe bouncing vibration with some super-harmonics as seen in the experiment.
