Abstract
In order to establish a method for designing a tactile display, we developed two kinds of matrix-type tactile displays, and tested them in several experiments. In virtual figure presentations, a human subject felt virtual figures such as a circle, triangle, square, pentagon, and hexagon. In experiments on virtual texture presentations, the human subjects touched virtual textures composed of crossed axis patterns, and they judged variations in crossed-axis stripe angles. A two-point threshold was adopted as the pitch between stimulus pins in the design of the tactile display.
