This paper describes a hard disk drive head-positioning mechanism, in which the VCM (voice coil motor) magnet-yoke structure and the pivot shaft supporting the rotary actuator are combined into one unit. We investigated an effective method to fix the VCM onto the base to minimize heat-induced deformation and to improve the vibrational characteristics of the head-positioning mechanism.
