Abstract
We investigate the dynamic behavior of the air-oil interface in the fluid dynamic bearings (FDBs) with double sealing structure in a 2.5" hard disk drive (HDD) due to non-operating axial shock. The rigid body motion of a rotor with respect to a stator in the FDBs is experimentally and numerically analyzed during and after axial shock. A finite volume method and a volume of fluid method are used to simulate two-phase flow of air-oil with a surface tension. The unsteady motion of the upper and lower air-oil interface in the FDBs is simulated and verified by comparing with the shock experiment.
