Recently, the information is enlarged by the remarkable spread of internet society. The data center increases by enlargement of the information. Under this influence, it is expected that electric consumption increases on a global scale. It is effective to cut down the electric consumption of HDD which is main device of the data center. Therefore, this paper aimed for reducing the electric consumption of HDD, and suggested an air spindle which is a new structure for HDDs. In addition, this paper examined the groove processing method of the air bearing surface. Laser processing machine was used for groove processing. The processing surface was examined to be appropriate as a bearing by setting conditions of the machine. A target groove depth of thrust and journal bearing were 12 [μm] and 5[μm]. As a result, it is able to control of the groove depth by changing the switch frequency of the laser processing machine. In addition, processing method of a new air bearing groove using the laser processing machine was established.
