We study constitutive behavior of helical strands under uniaxial tension. A helical strand has a hierarchical structure and its level considered here are single fiber, helical fiber bundle and helical cord. Based on the microscopic failure process of a fiber, we statistically formulate the macroscopic constitutive behavior of helical fiber bundles using a so-called fiber bundle model. We apply this constitutive relation to the next hierarchical level, helical cords, and present the constitutive relation of a helical cord consisting several fiber bundles.
