This paper reports the results of an investigation of the effect of UV-irradiation on the tensile strength of flexural damaged PBO fiber. The loop test and optical microscope observation for damaged fiber were conducted to evaluate flexural damage (kink band).A kink band is the compression mode of failure in polymer fibers. The results showed that the tensile strength of UV-irradiated fiber (flexural damaged fiber) was lower than that of non-irradiated one. The strength degradation of the fiber after UV-irradiation increased with an increase of kink band.
