When a mechanical load is applied to a material that has a defect, the electric potential distribution developes passively on the piezoelectric placed on the material. On the other hand by impressing an electric signal to the piezoelectric film the supersonic wave is emitted and the reflection signal is received. In this study, by combining the passive electric potential CT method using the smart-layer and the active ultrasonic flaw detection method, the passive/active electric potential CT method is proposed for real time monitoring. The applicability and the usefulness of the proposed passive/active electric potential CT method are demonstrated.
