Abstract
Titanium alloys are one of the main metallic materials for biomedical applications. It is important to clarify the crack growth mechanism under corrosion environment, such as bio-environment. Under corrosive condition, hydrogen embrittlement also may be caused due to hydrogen origination by anodic dissolvent reaction. Therefore, the mechanism of fracture under corrosive condition is complicate because anodic dissolvent and hydrogen embrittlement mechanism are competitively involved. However, the load frequency effect on the crack growth under the corrosive environment for a titanium alloy has not yet been clarified. In this study, the corrosion fatigue crack growth tests of Ti-6Al-4V alloy were conducted, and the load frequency effect on corrosion fatigue crack growth rate was investigated.
