Effects of residual stress distribution on crack growth evaluation were confirmed by crack growth analyses for stress corrosion cracking (SCC) occurred in a butt welded pipe intended for primary loop re-circulation pipings in BWRs. In order to calculate stress intensity factor (SIF) for SCC growth evaluation, a semi-elliptical surface crack in a plate modeling shown in the JSME Code, Rules on Fitness-for-Service for Nuclear Power Plants, was applied. Weld residual stress and stress due to internal pressure were considered. SCC crack growth evaluation was conducted for a variety of crack positions which mean applied weld residual stress is different for each position. Comparisons of these results show rigorous measurement of a crack position is insignificant for crack growth evaluation.
