The effects of high summer temperatures on livestock have become more serious year by year. Heat stress increases the body temperature of livestock and adversely affects livestock productivity and reproduction. Both the temperature and the humidity are related to the heat stress of livestock. In recent years, high solar reflectant paints (heat-shielding paints) that can suppress the temperature rise inside buildings by applying to the outer walls and the roof of the buildings are attracting attentions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the heat-shielding painting the dairy cow barn roof on the thermal environment inside the barn. By applying the heat-shielding painting to the roof of the barn, it was found that the temperatures on the underside of roof were suppressed by about 20 degrees Celsius, and that the air temperature inside the barn was suppressed by 2.1 degrees Celsius to 2.4 degrees Celsius. The temperature and humidity index THI was reduced by 1.4 percent on average. As a result, it was confirmed that the temperature and THI inside the barn were reduced by the heat-shielding painting on the dairy cow barn roof. In addition, it was found that the effect of the heat-shielding painting appears more on the mezzanine floor.
