Abstract

In this study, the scattering of flexural waves by square arrangements of a finite number of circular holes on a thin elastic plate is analyzed based on the Kirchhoff plate theory. The analysis is performed in the frequency domain by expressing the exciting and scattered flexural wave fields in terms of eigenfunction expansion, and calculating the expansion coefficients by a numerical collocation method. The transmission characteristics through the square array of holes are shown for different hole diameters. The directional characteristics of the flexural wave scattering by the holes are examined for different frequencies.
