Abstract
It is easier to lap the green ball before the sintering than lapping sintered ceramic ball. Because, the green ball is for mainly molding by ceramic powder and binder. The lapping of the green ball is one of the effective methods for reducing the part of the manufacturing process in ceramics production. However, the green ball has the defect which produces crack and chip under lapping. In addition, the ceramic powder under lapping adheres to the lapping disks, and it blocks the lap surface. Therefore, it is difficult to apply the conventional lapping disk. The new lapping disk with chevroned cutting edge on the surface was developed. Green balls lapped by this lapping disk rapidly improved the profile of the ball. The experiment accomplished proper lapping conditions such as rotational speed of lapping disks and revolution direction of the green ball.
