Abstract
High speed milling is served with a number of component technologies. The advancement of these technologies plays a pivotal role in high speed milling practical application. Cutting tool is one of the most important parts. And ball end mill, which is the central tool for die and mould machining, is in heavy usage. Therefore, ball end mill with long tool life and high machining performance is strongly demanded. In this study, we focused on the cutting edge shapes of ball end mill, and proposed a means of creating micro-lands on rake face and flank face to investigate their cutting characteristics and improve tool life.
