Abstract
Recently, sustainable materials using natural resources have been developed in order to such alleviate environmental problems. Bamboo has the fastest growth rate among various natural materials, and its fiber has high specific strength and stiffness like glass fiber. Moreover, bamboo grows worldwide, especially in East Asia region. On the other hand, not only metal but also plastic gears have been used widely. Therefore, they are expected as more suitable gears for replacing metal gears and plastic gears. But, materials gears such as glass for fiber could have a lot of environmental impacts, especially in disposal stage. In the present paper, they implemented to fabricate bamboo fiber spur gears as a novel approach by using the high quality bamboo fibers extract technique and the high precision mold technique. As results of evaluation tests, the developed environmental friendly bamboo fiber spur gears showed suitable qualities.
