Thermal deformation of the structure leads to a decrease in the machining accuracy of the machine tools. The relative position between the tool and the table is changed by change of room temperature, heat generation of motor and temperature change of cutting fluid. The final purpose of this study is to compensate thermal deformation on a machining center with ball screw-driven in real time. For this final purpose, drilling work on a vertical machining center with ball screw-driven was conducted to validate the effect of the proposed compensation system. Consequently, it was indicated that the proposed system was effective to compensate for the thermal deformation in drilling work on a vertical machining center with ball screw-driven.
