Comb-tooth electrodes type MEMS capacitance sensor and two-electrode resistance sensor have been studied for detection of fuel liquid film on an engine intake pipe. The capacitance sensor showed little response to the gasoline and its main component liquid. In an engine test, the capacitance sensor showed obvious response to a cyclic injection of E20 gasoline. With the resistance sensor and a giga-ohm measurement circuit, it was confirmed that nonconductive gasoline becomes detectable conductive liquid with ethanol mixing. Also, it was found that static electricity in the fuel under a friction can be detected by the resistance measurement system.
