This paper describes a system that amplifies a change in structural color by integrating structures with negative Poisson's ratio and structural color gels. We built a theory of displacement in structures with negative Poisson's ratio. We measured the change of the structural color when acrylamide (AAM) hydrogel with colloidal crystals was pressed, and measured shrinkage ratio of a temperature-responsive poly N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) hydrogel. From above results, we fabricated the structure with negative Poisson's ratio and checked its motion. We believe that this system is an effective approach for the practical application of structural color gel sensors with high measurement sensitivity.
