Abstract
Strong earthquakes cause severe damages to buildings, highway and railway networks and other infrastructures. For emergency rescue and response it is very important to grasp damage information of infrastructure soon after the occurrence of the event. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the system for real-time damage detection of infrastructure due to severe earthquakes. This report presents the results of a series of laboratory tests for developing seismic damage detection of RC bridge pier using PVDF film sensor. First, basic static and dynamic characteristics of PVDF film sensor was confirmed. Then static loading test of RC beam and shaking table test of bridge pier were conducted and the potential of PVDF film sensor was studied.
