Abstract
In this preliminary study, the feasibility and the technical practicability of a activity/security monitoring system for residential houses based on vibration measurements. The vibration sensor-based monitoring system is expected to be advantageous than those based on other sensors because: the whole house might be cover by several sensors; the vibration sensors can be stealthily-installed and less stressful; they could be convertible to regional disaster monitoring system in case of emergency. In this report, we install accelerometers in a 2-story timber house, and analyze the relationship between the measured vibration data and the activity of the residents.
