This study deals with the resistance spot welding of magnesium alloy thin sheets, In order to obtain the spot welds with large nugget and high tensile-shear strength, the spot welding is performed on lap joint, which is put between two cover plates. It was shown that the application of cover plates enabled the spot welding of magnesium alloy sheets with relative low welding current and short weld time. In addition, large nugget diameter and high tensile-shear strength of spot weld were also obtained from this method.
