Abstract
In order to investigate possibility of dissimilar material welding by using frictional heating, welding experiment and tensile shear test was conducted using steel material and thermoplastic as joining material. In dissimilar material welding method used in this study, rotating welding tool is inserted into only steel plate. Frictional heat is generated. The heat transfers from steel plate to plastic material. Melted thermoplastic is welded to with pressure applied from welding tool. From results of welding experiment and tensile shear test, it was possible that steel material and thermoplastic is welded. In addition, the joining strength showed approximately 4MPa and fracture occurred into matrix of thermoplastic, not interface between steel plate and thermoplastic. During the tensile shear test, a part of welded region was separated in retreating side. This result suggests that the different joining strength is showed in different location.
