Recently, many industrial products (personal computer, electric printer, mobile phone and so on) are painted with a black color. This is because a black color has a feeling of high quality and a feeling of massive. Generally, "a deep black" or "a glossy black" are well used as the words which describe a black color. These words are not used for other colors. It is unique in black color. Therefore, the influence that black color gives to visual sensation may be larger than other colors. However, the reason why a black color looks deep and massive is unknown. By the way, Japanese traditional black paint is a rhus lacquer. The rhus lacquer black was known as high-quality black color by the people of all over the world from long ago. Therefore, we paid our attention to the rhus lacquer. The final goal of this study is to solve the reason why we feel a high-quality in the rhus lacquer black. In this report, we made several kinds of black samples including the rhus lacquer and measured transmission spectra from these samples when we irradiated the light of the incandescent electric lamp. As a result of measurement, a central wavelength of the transmission spectrum of the black rhus lacquer was 950nm. This wavelength was 120-140nm longer than both central wavelengths of a chemical black paint and a black polycarbonate.
