Abstract
Synchronous belt for camshaft drive in automobile engine is used under fluctuating torque conditions. In this study, the belt deformations, namely belt curvature and shearing strain, are measured under the fluctuating torque condition. Especially, the effects of pulley diameter and pitch difference between belt and pulley on the belt deformations are discussed. The belt deformations are small for the short pitch belts. Moreover the belt curvature is high for the driving pulley. The belt shearing strain is high for the driven pulley.
