Abstract
Mechanics of cords under bending is important to understand the fatigue mechanism of synchronous belt, because the fatigue damage is usually accumulated in the cords when the belt works. In this study, the effects of cord composition, wire diameter and twist direction of the wire on the amount of relative sliding between the wires are examined under cord-bending condition. The relative sliding is induced by the tension/compression axial-stress distribution of wire, which is twisted as the cord. The amount of relative sliding is large in ZS cord composition.
