Abstract
Tooth frank form deviation of micrometers influences vibration and noise characteristics of gears. Its precise measurement is, therefore, crucial in quality control, but the calibration system of gear checkers with the traceability and uncertainty is not established yet in the sense of ISO standard. In this research, Virtual Gear Checker (VGC) has been developed, that is a computer program considering all mechanics and all possible error factors of real gear checkers, such as form error of component, movement error, sensing error and control system error. VGC can calculate measurement results of tooth frank form deviation from the specification and the value of error factors of real gear checkers. We can simulate the uncertainty of measured results for tooth frank form deviation much more easily and more quickly with VGC than with real gear checker. VGC makes it possible to establish the method for the inspection and calibration of gear checkers with the traceability and uncertainty.
