Abstract
Simplified 5-Axis Ball End Milling performs simultaneous 3-axis controlled ball end milling with intermittent changing of the relative tool orientation to a workpiece. In this study, the objective is to find the effective tool orientation series with Genetic Algorithm (GA) in order to maximize the removal volume and to reduce the number of changing the tool orientation. The geometric simulation system with Voxel model to calculate the removal volume has been developed. Tool orientation series are represented as a gene in GA. The availability of the method is supported by the results of comparative experiments. Additionally the probability of this method is discussed from the view point of the general problem definition in the cutter selection and the determination of tool orientation series.
