Abstract
The fundamental design optimization of thermal power equipment has been studied using several optimum methods, such as, gradient method, response surface method, orthogonal array, and their combinations. It was found that these optimum methods are effective in improving the equipment efficiency and the optimum method which combines gradient method with orthogonal array shows the best performance in the design space with plural peaks.
