This study deals with heat transfer performance of a blazing plate heat exchange used as a condenser in heat pump hot water system. The heat transfer performance was evaluated by using a pump driven two-phase flow loop. The effects of number of plates and setting arrangement, (vertical with downward refrigerant flow or horizontal) were evaluated HFC 134a was used as the refrigerant. Superheated vapor was supplied to the condenser, and heated water. Water was flowing in the counter flow direction. Three kinds of condenser with different refrigerant channels, 6, 10, and 14 refrigerant paths, were used Refrigerant temperatures at the exit of channel were measured by inserted thermocouples to evaluate flow distribution. As a result, it was shown that vertical arrangement produced higher heat transfer rate than the horizontal arrangement. For the horizontal arrangement, heat transfer rate decreased with an increase of refrigerant channels from 10 to 14 due to uneven refrigerant distribution.
