In a fire situation, water sprays easily extinguish and suppress the fire. The high cooling and intense suffocation actions of water sprays extinguish and suppress fires. The purpose of this study was to clarify the fire suppression performance of water sprays by performing a model-scale fire experiment. We performed free burning and water suppression fire experiments using models with two scales, (1/6 and 1/12), and established the scaling relationship of the decrement amount of the convective heat release rate during the water spray activation. Furthermore, we discovered the fire extinguishing condition by water sprays under two scales and using two fuel types.
