This paper proposes an application of Flywheel Energy Storage System for a microgrid to improve the power system stabilization and the life of storage battery. In this paper, the power variations of photovoltaic system and wind power system in a microgrid is suppressed by using the flywheel energy storage system and Valve-Regulated-Lead-Acid (VRLA) batteries. When the power variations are restrained in the VRLA batteries, the life of battery expectancy is made short. In this study, we simulated the introduction of a flywheel energy storage system to a microgrid. As a result, the maximum value in the charge/discharge of VRLA battery power are suppressed by the flywheel energy storage system.
