In the present study, La0.6Sr0.4CoO3-Gd0.1Ce0.9O1.95 (LSC-GDC) composite cathodes were fabricated with diffrenet volume fractions. Polarizaion characteristics and microstructure parameters were investigated. Cell overpotential were measured at 700 °C and oxygen partial pressure of 100 %. Current was applied from 0 to 0.2 A/cm−2 with an interval of 0.05 A/cm−2. Cathode microstructures of La0.6Sr0.4CoO3-Gd0.1Ce0.9O1.95 = 30:70 and 50:50 vol. % were reconstructed by focus ion beam-scanning electron microscopy technique. A voxel size of 3D reconstructed microstructures is 25 nm. Neither LSC surface area or triple phase boundary density alone can explain the cell performance of the composite cathodes.
