In industrial applications, large amounts of steam are used after which unused low temperature waste heat is released into the environment. It is important to develop a high performance and a high temperature heat pump using a waste heat recovery system to realize a low carbon society. In this study, the development objectives are maximum heat temperature 200°C and coefficient of performance (COP) of more than 3.5. A transcritical R600 heat pump cycle was selected through system simulation. Oil free turbo compressors and heat exchangers designed at 6MPa and 200°C were tested. Two types of plate heat exchangers were tested using 4.0-5.7MPaA and 200°C supercritical R600 refrigerant. Heat transfer rates and pressure drops were measured and compared with calculated results. System simulation indicates that this heat pump system can realize the objective performance.
