Abstract

To progress introduction of the renewable energy sources including photovoltaic and wind power facilities, it is necessary to compensate for power fluctuations and supply the stabilized power. A hydrogen electric power storage system has been developed for this issue. The system produces hydrogen using surplus power and generates electricity by fuel cells using the output gas. Toshiba has developed hydrogen production system using SOEC and electrical power storage system. SOEC can achieve higher efficiency than conventional low temperature electrolysis methods. The SOEC multiple-stack-module that stacked several cells could produce large hydrogen gas. However, the performance degradation might be caused by the non-uniform temperature and vapor flow with the multiple-stack-module. In this paper, the evaluation results of SOEC multiple-stack-module are reported.
