Abstract
The energy transfer and surface modification of a metal was studied theoretically during pulsed laser heating. The metal surface was melted down by the laser energy, surface tension flow on the liquid was resulted from the deformation of surface. The deformation varied with surface temperature distribution which depended on the input laser power, heating time, laser diameter and reflectivity on the metal. This study reported the surface deformation taking account of the reflectivity, which was changed by a laser power. The final deformation at the center was concave or convex shape due to the variation of reflectivity.
